We're happy to announce that >>The stART with Mio Exhibit has been extended until the first week of January. So for all those who still haven't dropped by to take a look at the cool artworks, you still have a couple of weeks left!

We'd also like to thank everyone who supported all 5 MioMonday Dinners! Thanks to PINO and Chef Edward for hosting the dinners and for serving spectacular food ALL the time. We've got more in store for 2010, so keep coming back to this site to learn about the upcoming projects.

The stART with Mio Exhibit Opening last December 9, 2009 was a gathering of all people passionate about art. Who would have thought that an event so successful would all begin with 5-year old aspiring artist Mio Mendiola? Looking into the details of the kid's daily doodles, one would instantly understand how a child his age could inspire a group of professional artists and designers to create something great. At 5 years old, Mio is indeed one talented drawer--he truly deserves to have his name up in lights. He draws with the childlike innocence that all artists dream they never, ever lose. His subject selection is random and fun. His crayon strokes, though imperfect, have a sense of confidence in them. When noticed for his drawing skills, he becomes shy and doesn't really understand the compliments, because to him, drawing is a normal, everyday thing, and something that he just simply loves to do.

Naturally, since drawing is one of Mio's daily activities, his Mommy Jasmine holds a collection of sketchpads full of his drawings and doodles. She left it up to me (and my teammates: Jobelle, Tiffy and Katwo) to decide what we could do with the drawings to help raise funds to help cover Mio's medical bills. And we came up with stARTwithMio.

Artists, musicians, designers, actors and directors came to support the event and to express their appreciation for Mio's art and the awesome work the Artists did in continuing his drawings. We were all so happy that many of the artworks were sold on the first night (but don't worry, there are still a lot available!). Artists and art-lovers mingled about and the event was buzzing with creativity as crayons, markers and postcards with Mio's seed artworks served as table centerpieces.

The exhibit is interactive and unique: Guests' artworks are exhibited as well!

Guests drew their own stART with Mio art on postcards and stuck them on the exhibit wall. Kids of ALL ages are most welcome to come and create their own stART with Mio postcards and can get a chance to be exhibited together with the spectacular artworks by the pros.

Delicious wine and cocktails kept everyone's bellies satisfied, all prepared by Chef Edward Bugia of Pino, a restaurant that is passionate about Food and Art. Favorite Nori Cheese Sticks, Pork & Shrimp Lemongrass Skewers, and Tofu Balls were among the mouth-watering picapicas served on opening night.

The Exhibit runs until December 20 at Gallery7 Digital Studio in the new Eastwood Mall.
Gallery7 is on the 3rd Floor beside Gymboree. Open Mondays to Sundays from 10am-10pm.

taWe would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the awesome artists who have taken / are taking the time off their busy schedules to collaborate with Mio!

As a little thank you to them, we held a meet-and-greet dinner at Pino last Nov9 MioMonday!

It was a funfun night of excellent food and lots of laughter. Unfortunately, due to their busy schedules, not all the artists could make it. Mio also had to stay home, but Mommy Jasmine was there in his behalf. Many other friends also came to support MioMondays!

Pino is known for transforming favorite Filipino fare into creative dishes, surprisingly combining flavors, textures and ingredients. For MioMondays, Chef Edward Bugia is preparing a special 6-course menu, and guests will be served free wine and will also be able to take home an artwork created by Mio Mendiola.

stART with MIO

Hi! If you're an Artist / Illustrator / Designer, then please read this post!

Start with Mio is a collaborative art project where Mio's artworks will be used as Seed Drawings and passed on to other artists who will continue to finish the masterpiece.

We have invited 10 Professional Artists and Designers to collaborate with Mio. Their creations will be exhibited and sold at Gallery7 Digital Studio in Eastwood Mall from November 12-25, 2009.

We invite YOU to be a part of this project!

You may also download Mio's Seed drawing files and work on them! Work on as many as you want, however you wish to do so. E-mail your finished work to startwithmio@gmail.com. Chosen artworks will be printed on 8x5" mini-prints and will be sold online and at the exhibit.

About Mio & This Website

Mio Mendiola is 7 years old, draws everyday, and says that someday, he would like to become an artist. We think he already IS one!!

Sadly, last August 2009 (when he was 5 years old), Mio was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. We MioWarriors (as Mio's mom Jasmine likes to call us) are organizing various projects to help raise funds for Mio's medication, hospitalization and medical treatments.

MiotheArtist.com is the avenue where we can feature Mio's raw drawing talent (he's never had formal art lessons) and at the same time, utilize his creations and involve family/friends/strangers so that we can ALL help Mio battle this disease.
